Today was a most magical sort of day. Although we believe it to be winter, one could easily imagine it to be spring. It was the perfect day to walk across the heathland in an attempt to find hawk feathers. There is this hawk that we see every day on our drive into town... always perched in the same tree. Sometimes there is a pair of them. Today they were nowhere in sight and even the hundreds of crows that have recently taken up residence had gone off to enjoy the warm weather elsewhere. It was such a gorgeous day and I was reminded of early Spring in the New Forest (around February) and my routine of walking towards Longslade Bottom from my village of Sway. I would usually happen upon a pony (or two or ten), so that was definitely lacking, but otherwise the view is quite like the forest. The breeze was warm and almost, almost I could imagine it to be the fresh sea air that I so miss. We took the opportunity to attempt to photograph the beauty around us and I will post those photographs here.
We decided to explore around the tree where we so often see the hawk(s) perched. We found some animal bones and a couple of feathers (not hawk), which was quite exciting. As we were about to leave we decided to have one last look round and discovered... the remains of a hawk. I wonder if it is the same hawk that we so often saw and how it met with the hand of death? I wonder if this means that the hawk totem that has been following me around since my birthday has served its purpose and now it is time to move on to the next lesson? Time will tell.

Hag Stone in Birch Bark Pouch
"Holey stone on wand'rings found,
Under foot, upon the ground,
Blessings on us all be bound." This is a charm which was spoken throughout the British Isles upon discovering one of these rocks with naturally occuring holes. These holes take thousands of years to form in these stones. these holey stones are good luck talismans. I found this one in the New Forest in England. This stone comes wrapped in a handcrafted birch bark pouch which I have stitched with sinew. I have others available on my etsy shop in the section- talismans. Blessed be!

Firebird Sacred Talisman
After all the rain and cloudy weather, I felt an intense need for fire energy, and so I created a sacred talisman. I call this "The Firebird Sacred Talisman." This is a versatile piece of jewlery which can be worn as a crown, a necklace, wrapped as a bracelet or anklet or tied around the waist. Really the possibilities are endless. I created this piece while meditating on the myth's of the firebird/phoenix and the meaning of colours and stones. I have wrapped a 100% silk reclaimed ribbon in a beautiful shade of persimon orange/red around a brown suede cord. At the centre is a carnelian gemstone in the shape of a warrior sphere (or a leaf) surrounded by scarlet red seed beads. This talisman brings warmth, passion, focused energy and confidence. Blessed be!

Sacred Talisman's
I' ve been busy with my precious newborn son, Harold Hugh, but have still managed to spend time in nature creating new treasures. I have been working on some tribal talismans at the moment, using sacred hag stones, found animal bones, recycled suede, reclaimed silk ribbons, glass beads, etc. Alan is working on birch bark bookmarks and we are also making bark treasure pouches/medicine bags/talisman bags.
